Natural cosmetics for sensitive skin – innovative, honest, sustainable, vegan
For us, natural cosmetics means: clear formulations without unnecessary irritants – without ethanol/denatured alcohol, without essential oils, fragrance-free, pH-balanced, and non-comedogenic. This results in skincare that respects sensitive skin, strengthens the skin barrier, and delivers visible results – without drama, but with plenty of moisture and balance.
What does natural cosmetics mean at Klaer?
- Gentle & pH-friendly: Formulated in the skin-close range (~pH 5–5.5) for good tolerability.
- Alcohol-free (Alcohol denat.) & perfume-free: Free from drying alcohols and fragrances – good for sensitive/reactive skin.
- Non-comedogenic: Lightweight textures that won't clog pores.
- Transparent INCI: Clearly named active ingredients (e.g., niacinamide, panthenol, allantoin, sodium PCA, pentylene glycol as a moisture booster).
- Vegan & conscious: Gentle on the skin, conscious in the selection of raw materials.
Note on terms:
Toner is often also called facial toner – both refer to the same liquid skincare step after cleansing.
Who is natural cosmetics suitable for?
- Sensitive/reactive skin: Soothes, reduces redness, and supports the skin barrier with gentle, pH-balanced formulas. Moisture-retaining ingredients like glycerin and sodium PCA buffer irritation; panthenol and allantoin restore the skin's natural balance.
- Dry skin: Builds up a lasting moisture reserve and reduces feelings of tightness. Polyols (e.g., glycerin), as well as pentylene glycol and sodium PCA, bind water long-term; a light finishing cream retains moisture without feeling heavy.
- Oily/combination skin: Balancing, lightweight textures – without occlusive overload – keep pores visibly refined and reduce shine. Non-comedogenic formulations and controlled, gentle exfoliation support an even, clear complexion.
- Mature skin: Focus on elasticity, evenness, and abundant moisture for a more radiant complexion. pH-balanced, highly moisturizing care strengthens the skin barrier, making lines appear softer and the skin look smoother.
- Men's skin: Yes, absolutely – especially after shaving, alcohol-free, fragrance-free formulas soothe without burning. It smells like skin, not perfume – quickly provides moisture and a fresh feeling (without a scent cloud, we promise).
Natural cosmetics routine (simple & effective)
- Cleansing: Gently remove impurities (e.g., with oil) + gently clarify (with gel) – avoid making skin feel squeaky clean. Natural cosmetics focus on gentle, lipid-friendly cleansing that removes makeup and SPF without disrupting the skin barrier. Natural cleansers with a skin-friendly pH and moisture-binding polyols optimally prepare the skin for the next steps.
- Liquid step: Toner/ facial toner for hydration and soothing; use exfoliating toners (AHA/BHA/PHA) sparingly. An alcohol-free natural cosmetic toner/facial toner replenishes moisture reserves and soothes – ideal as a leave-in product in your routine. In natural cosmetics, exfoliating toners are used gently to even out the complexion without stressing the skin.
- Serums: Targeted (hydration, balancing, glow). Natural cosmetic serums combine gentle active ingredients such as niacinamide, panthenol, or amino acids for visible balance. In natural cosmetics, light, non-comedogenic serums help to increase hydration and make the complexion appear clearer.
- Finishing touch: A light fluid/cream that locks in moisture. A natural cosmetic finishing treatment seals in the previously applied moisture without feeling heavy or shiny. Your natural cosmetic routine protects the skin barrier and stabilizes results in the long term.
Questions about our natural cosmetics
Is natural cosmetics effective enough for sensitive skin?
Yes – products formulated with low-irritant properties and clearly dosed active ingredients can reduce redness, strengthen the barrier and visibly even out the skin's appearance.
What is Alcohol denat. (denatured alcohol) in cosmetics?
Alcohol denat. is ethanol that has been made unpalatable with bittering agents and is therefore named as such in the INCI list. It is highly volatile, dissolves fats and fragrances, and can – depending on the amount – degrease the skin.
Why is denatured alcohol used in natural cosmetics?
It is primarily used as a solvent/carrier for plant extracts (e.g., tinctures), for a lighter skin feel, and for a quick-drying finish; it can also act as part of the preservative system. However, in higher concentrations, it can dry out or irritate sensitive skin – therefore, low-irritant natural cosmetics use it sparingly or avoid it altogether.
Do I need alcohol (denatured alcohol) or fragrance/perfume for a "clean" feeling when using natural cosmetics?
No. Mild surfactants and moisturizing toners/facial waters provide cleansing and freshness without drying alcohols or perfume; alcohol-free, perfume-free formulas are often more barrier-friendly – especially for sensitive skin.
Is toner the same as facial toner?
In everyday life: yes. Toner/facial toner prepares the skin after cleansing, provides moisture and stays on the skin (leave-on, do not rinse off).
Can natural cosmetics refine pores and improve blemishes?
With a consistent, pH-friendly routine, moisture replenishment and controlled, gentle exfoliation, the skin's appearance can become finer and smoother.
Is natural cosmetics also suitable for men?
Sure – alcohol-free aftershave reliably soothes the skin without burning. Perfume-free means: it smells like skin, not perfume (and nobody in the elevator has to smell like you 😉).
