That's why Klaer is sustainable!
✅ Reusable instead of waste
The deposit system keeps packaging in circulation and saves new resources with every use. Sustainable cosmetics here means: less waste, same effectiveness.
✅ Perfume-free & alcohol-free
Gentle formulations without fragrances and denatured alcohol are skin barrier-friendly. This makes sustainable cosmetics suitable for sensitive skin and suitable for everyday use.
✅ pH-friendly care
Formulas with a pH level close to that of the skin support the natural protective barrier. The result is a calmer complexion – ideal for a long-term, effective routine.
✅ Transparent materials
Single-material construction and clear labeling facilitate recycling and reuse. Visible sustainability strengthens trust – from the bottle to the label.
✅ Fewer bad purchases, more impact
Understandable INCI names and targeted products reduce "try and toss." Sustainable cosmetics thus save not only packaging, but also frustration.
✅ Local/short routes (where possible)
Short transport chains reduce the footprint per unit. Circular economies work best when they take place close to people.
Why natural cosmetics and sustainability belong together
- Circularity instead of single-use: Reusable packaging is circular: Containers are returned via partners like Zerooo , professionally refurbished, and reused. For single-use components, we rely – where necessary – on Ocean Package with readily recyclable materials; product samples are handled via Samplistick to ensure that sampling remains as resource-efficient as possible. This significantly extends the lifespan of each unit, and you save on virgin plastic with every subsequent use. Where reusable packaging is not currently feasible, we offset 250g of plastic waste from European rivers for every unit sold via Everwave – more than the weight of a typical primary packaging.
- Conscious formulations: Gentle, pH-balanced formulations without denatured alcohol (Alcohol denat.) and without perfume are gentle on the skin, and unnecessary, short-lived trend additives are omitted. This protects the skin barrier and conserves resources – less trial and error, more long-term benefits.
- Transparent supply chains: Clearly communicated materials and processes strengthen trust. The more predictable the material cycle, the better recycling rates and returns can be organized.
Sustainable cosmetics with reusable containers & deposit – gentle & conscious
For us, natural cosmetics means: clear formulations without unnecessary irritants – without ethanol/denatured alcohol, without essential oils, fragrance-free, pH-balanced, and non-comedogenic. This results in skincare that respects sensitive skin, strengthens the skin barrier, and delivers visible results – without drama, but with plenty of moisture and balance.
Reusable deposit system in cosmetics – here's how it works
Usage: You purchase your skincare products in reusable containers with a deposit. The container is robustly designed and suitable for multiple uses.
- Returns: Empty containers should be returned to participating locations/partners. The deposit will be refunded or credited towards the next purchase.
- Reprocessing: Professional cleaning/reprocessing according to quality standards – only intact containers are put back into circulation.
- Refilling: The container is reused – same quality, fewer new resources.
In short
Each use saves material, energy, and waste compared to buying new goods. That's circular economy, as you can see in the bathroom.
Natural cosmetics routine (simple & effective)
- Cleansing: Gently remove impurities (e.g., with oil) + gently clarify (with gel) – avoid making skin feel squeaky clean. Natural cosmetics focus on gentle, lipid-friendly cleansing that removes makeup and SPF without disrupting the skin barrier. Natural cleansers with a skin-friendly pH and moisture-binding polyols optimally prepare the skin for the next steps.
- Liquid step: Toner/ facial toner for hydration and soothing; use exfoliating toners (AHA/BHA/PHA) sparingly. An alcohol-free natural cosmetic toner/facial toner replenishes moisture reserves and soothes – ideal as a leave-in product in your routine. In natural cosmetics, exfoliating toners are used gently to even out the complexion without stressing the skin.
- Serums: Targeted (hydration, balancing, glow). Natural cosmetic serums combine gentle active ingredients such as niacinamide, panthenol, or amino acids for visible balance. In natural cosmetics, light, non-comedogenic serums help to increase hydration and make the complexion appear clearer.
- Finishing touch: A light fluid/cream that locks in moisture. A natural cosmetic finishing treatment seals in the previously applied moisture without feeling heavy or shiny. Your natural cosmetic routine protects the skin barrier and stabilizes results in the long term.
Packaging & Materials
- Reusable where possible: Robust primary packaging with a deposit system for repeated use. The design focuses on durability, neutral appearance, and easy cleaning.
- Recycling where necessary: If single-use is unavoidable, preference should be given to mono-materials that can be easily identified and recycled in the standard recycling stream.
- Compensation where reusable packaging is not possible: For remaining single-use components, we finance the recovery of 250g of plastic per unit sold via Everwave (European rivers) – more than the weight of primary packaging.
- Conscious printing & labels: Reduced colors, low-solvent processes and easily removable labels facilitate reuse.
Ingredients – skin-friendly & conscious
- Fragrance-free & alcohol-free: No perfumes, no denatured alcohol (Alcohol denat.) – good for sensitive skin and better for a minimalist, long-term routine. This reduces the potential for irritation and makes products suitable for more people.
- Moisture magnets: Polyols like glycerin and pentylene glycol, as well as sodium PCA, bind water in the skin – for plump, balanced skin without feeling heavy. A stable barrier is truly sustainable skincare.
- Clearly communicated: INCI names are openly displayed, functions are explained – so that you can make conscious decisions and produce fewer bad purchases.
Questions about our sustainable natural cosmetics
Is reusable cosmetic packaging hygienically safe?
Yes, reusable containers are professionally cleaned and inspected according to defined standards; only flawless containers are returned to circulation. This combines resource conservation with quality assurance.
Why are alcohol-free (denat.), perfume-free recipes more sustainable?
They are often more widely tolerated and reduce the risk of having to discard a product due to irritation. This extends the actual lifespan and is therefore indirectly more material-efficient, conserves resources, and saves money.
Can sustainable cosmetics really be "effective"?
Yes – effectiveness depends on well-designed formulations, not single-use packaging. Moisture-attracting ingredients like glycerin, pentylene glycol, and sodium PCA deliver noticeable effects while maintaining a gentle profile.
How does reusable bags differ from refill bags?
Refill relies on refill packs (often single-use pouches), while reusable packaging returns the original container. Both can save resources; reusable packaging also scores points with standardized return and processing. Reusable glass containers can be reused very often – the higher energy required for production is offset by many uses, especially with short transport distances and professional processing. While the additional weight increases the logistics footprint, glass is inert, robust, and excellently recyclable should a container be lost or lost; depending on the setup, lightweight reusable plastics may be advantageous for long distances.
What do I do with empty containers?
Return the product to the place where you purchased it or where participating partners are located – this keeps the material in circulation. Returns are an integral part of the model and differentiate it from traditional recycling.
